Insiden tersebut terjadi di kawasan prostitusi Jakarta Utara pada Jumat 22 Februari 2002.
Kerusuhan itu terjadi pada pukul 02.30 hingga 07.30 WIB.
Peristiwa itu berawal dari perkelahian kecil yang diawali lempar-lemparan botol di antara dua pihak di ruas Jalan Bidara Raya antara Gang Kambing dan Gang Mabes.
Lempar-lemparan itu sempat berhenti sebentar, namun saat listrik padam, yang terjadi pertarungan yang diikuti pembakaran.
Peristiwa tersebut mengakibatkan 225 banguan terbakar dan 3 orang mengalami luka berat akibat di bacok.
Dalam peristiwa itu polisi menetapkan tiga korban sebagai tersangka.
Sementara delapan tersangka lain yang diduga menjadi pemicu pertikaian pun juga ditahan.
Polisi juga menyita tuju tombak besi, dua bambu runcing, satu besi panjang, serta sejumlah pedang.
