Kini Pentagon pun bimbang akan memperpanjang penempatan kapal Eisenhower atau menariknya dari wilayah tersebut.
Dilansir dari Al Mayadeen, hal itu diumumkan oleh situs berita ABC News, pada Rabu (19/6/2024) kemarin.
Menurut laporan tersebut, kapal induk Eisenhower dan 7000 awak kapal yang dikerahkan di Laut Merah untuk menghadapi Houthi mulai kelelahan.
Pasalnya, pertempuran di Laut Merah ini menjadi pertempuran angkatan laut paling lama sejak Perang Dunia II.
Terlebih penempatan kapal induk ini telah diperpanjang hingga dua kali hingga menyebabkan ribuan awak kapalnya mengeluh kelelahan.
Oleh karena itu kini para pemimpin Pentagon bimbang.
Mereka mengaku ragu akan mengindahkan seruan Angkatan Laut untuk memulangkan kapal induk tersebut atau permintaan Komando Pusat AS untuk memperpanjang masa tinggalnya.
Namun mereka menekankan bahwa keputusan tersebut akan bergantung pada peran maskapai penerbangan dalam mendukung Israel.
Para pejabat AS pun kini tengah mengevaluasi langkah mereka.
