Iwan Setiawan menilai, keputusan Mendagri terkait 4 pulau tersebut sarat dugaan akan politik terselubung.
Hal itu mengingat di 4 pulau tersebut memiliki sumber daya alam yang melimpah, ditambah lagi kawasan yang diisukan memilik cadangan migas.
Nama Presiden RI ke-7 Joko Widodo (Jokowi) dan menantunya, Gubernur Sumatera Utara Bobby Nasution, ikut disorot dalam polemik ini.
Menurut Iwan, keterlibatan aktor politik dengan kedekatan personal terhadap Jokowi menjadi salah satu indikator yang menimbulkan pertanyaan publik.
Ia menilai relasi antara Mendagri Tito Karnavian yang dikenal sebagai loyalis Jokowi dan Bobby Nasution yang merupakan menantu Jokowi tak bisa dilepaskan dari konteks kebijakan tersebut.
Iwan juga mengungkapkan bahwa dugaan keberadaan sumber daya alam di wilayah perairan sekitar keempat pulau itu bisa menjadi alasan ekonomi yang memperkuat kepentingan politis.
Ia mengingatkan keputusan seperti ini bisa memicu respons keras dari masyarakat Aceh yang memiliki sejarah panjang dalam isu kedaulatan wilayah.
Iwan mendesak agar Kemendagri lebih berhati-hati dan terbuka dalam menjelaskan dasar pengambilan keputusan tersebut.
Secarat tegas, Direktur IPR itu menyarankan DPR RI, khususnya Komisi II, untuk memanggil Mendagri Tito Karnavian.
