Kabupaten Nduga selama bertahun-tahun dikenal sebagai daerah konflik antara aparat keamanan dan OPM.
Yang hingga saat ini telah memakan korban dari kedua belah pihak, termasuk warga sipil.
Menurut Kepala Biro Informasi Pertahanan Kementerian Pertahanan Brigjen TNI Frega Wenas, kunjungan tersebut merupakan yang pertama kali dilakukan.
Baik oleh Menteri Pertahanan Sjafrie maupun Menteri Keuangan Sri Mulyani ke daerah rawan konflik tersebut.
Dari dokumentasi yang diterima redaksi, tampak kedua menteri mengenakan rompi antipeluru saat memasuki barak prajurit.
Kondisi barak terlihat sederhana, terbuat dari kayu, dengan tempat tidur berupa matras hitam gulung tanpa sekat maupun lemari.
Seragam dan perlengkapan prajurit tampak digantung atau diletakkan di lantai barak.
