Pesawat-pesawat tempur Israel menembakkan beberapa rudal ke Masjid Ibnu Utsman, yang berada di lingkungan Shuja’iyya, di pusat Kota Gaza.
Menurut para ahli, masjid Ibnu Utsman merupakan masjid arkeologi terbesar kedua di Jalur Gaza setelah Masjid Agung Al-Omari di lingkungan Al-Daraj di tengah kota.
Di mana masjid ini juga menjadi bukti sejarah kuno Kota Gaza.
Penduduk lingkungan Shuja'iyya menyebut masjid tersebut sebagai Masjid Agung.
Hal itu karena luasnya dan lokasinya yang berada di pasar utama lingkungan tersebut.
Kehilangan masjid tersebut berdampak besar pada kehidupan mereka sejak masjid itu didirikan lebih dari 600 tahun yang lalu.
Diketahui, Masjid Ibnu Utsman telah menjadi sasaran serangan dan pembongkaran selama perang sebelumnya di Jalur Gaza.
Masjid itu dianggap sebagai pusat konfrontasi dengan pasukan pendudukan Israel selama Intifada Pertama yang pecah pada bulan Desember 1987.
Masjid Ibnu Utsman berukuran 2.000 meter persegi, di mana 400 meter persegi merupakan luas halaman utamanya.
Masjid itu memiliki dua gerbang yang menghadap ke pasar Shuja'iyya, dan dibangun dengan gaya Mamluk.
