Australia menjadi negara terbaru yang menyatakan komitmen tersebut dan akan mengumumkannya pada Sidang Umum PBB September 2025.
Perdana Menteri Anthony Albanese menegaskan negaranya mendukung hak rakyat Palestina untuk memiliki negara merdeka.
Langkah Australia menambah daftar negara yang mengakui Palestina di tengah perang Israel-Hamas yang kembali pecah sejak Oktober 2023.
Data AFP menyebut sedikitnya 145 dari 193 negara anggota PBB telah atau akan mengakui kenegaraan Palestina.
Daftar tersebut mencakup Perancis, Kanada, Inggris, serta sebagian besar negara di Asia, Afrika, dan Amerika Latin.
Pengakuan ini dinilai mematahkan pandangan lama bahwa status negara Palestina hanya dapat dicapai melalui perundingan dengan Israel.
Langkah ini juga menjadi sinyal kuat dorongan global untuk segera mengakhiri konflik berkepanjangan di kawasan tersebut.
