Keputusan ini diambil menyusul rapat kabinet darurat yang digelar setelah desakan publik, tekanan Internasional, dan pengunduran diri Menteri Dalam Negeri, Ramesh lekhak.
Langkah ini juga menjadi bentuk respons atas tuntutan utama dari gelombang protes yang dipimpin anak muda Generasi Z, yang mempersoalkan pemblokiran 26 platform media sosial seperti Facebook, YouTube, Instagram dan X (dulu Twitter).
Menteri Komunikasi Nepal, Prithvi Subba Gurung, mengatakan bahwa keputusan ini diambil untuk meredam ketegangan dan membuka ruang dialog dengan para pengunjuk rasa.
Pencabutan larangan ini dianggap sebagai bentuk pengakuan atas pentingnya ruang digital sebagai bagian dari kebebasan berekspresi generasi muda Nepal.
Aksi tersebut, yang semula berlangsung damai, berubah menjadi bentrokan brutal di Kathmandu dan kota-kota lainnya setelah aparat keamanan menindak tegas massa yang mencoba menerobos komplek parlemen.
