Bangladesh's Yunus Sends PM Modi Mangoes to Reset Frayed Ties After Hasina's Ouster |Spotlight| N18GBangladesh is trying to woo its neighbour India with a sweeter note. Continuing with its mango diplomacy, the country’s interim head, Muhammad Yunus, sent 1,000 kilograms of mangoes to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. It is a sweet symbol of goodwill between India and Bangladesh. Yunus has also sent mangoes to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Mango diplomacy is not new for India and Bangladesh. It is to reinforce cultural ties and regional diplomacy. The tradition was initiated by the ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. But the recent gesture came amid strained ties between New Delhi and Dhaka. The Yunus government shifted alliances from India and cosied up to China and Pakistan. But, with the mango gesture, it seems Yunus is turning back to India.
