No Crema? How to Get Crema on Your Espresso (Arabica vs Robusta)

So you're buying freshly roasted, high quality beans. You're dosing correctly, and grinding fine enough. You're distributing well, and tamping with pressure. But you're still not getting any crema? Well, it may very well be your beans. In America, we favor 100% arabica beans, because we're told they're better. But, my favorite espresso is a blend of 80% arabica, and 20% robusta. That small amount of robusta gives more crema, more caffeine, and a nice chocolatey and nutty shot. Try to find a nice blend, if you haven't yet.
