Niger Junta Agrees to Hold Talks With Benin to Repair Ties Hitting Oil Exports | Firstpost AfricaWest African neighbours Benin and Niger are looking mending ties. Months of diplomatic dispute between the two resulted in border closures and the shutdown of a major oil pipeline. Niger's junta has finally agreed to come to a negotiating table and hold talks with Benin's government. However, no date has been finalized yet for the talks. A resolution could mean the resumption of oil exports via a China-backed pipeline, the re-opening of borders, and the restoration of trade between the two sides. Benin has been pressuring Niger to reopen borders to allow access to its port for exports. Niger military leaders so far refused to give Benin this leverage. However, they have now changed their minds.
